Ecological assessment and river restoration
We not only carried out major restoration work on Luton’s River Lea – but we ensured the surrounding trees and wildlife weren’t impacted too.
Reptiles and trees
To assess any issues which might affect any river restoration activities, our ecologists delivered a preliminary ecological appraisal. This identified the need to establish whether there were any reptiles in the area; a survey confirmed there weren’t.
Our Lantra-qualified professional tree inspectors also met with project stakeholders to undertake a tree survey. This was to accurately map the location of trees and scrub, to help inform the design of the works.
Full restoration works
Following these surveys, Maydencroft carried out the restoration works, which involved the felling and removal of dense trees and shrubs (including non-natives), and the clearance of a 3-4m wide margin of waste materials and structures along both banks.
