Ecological mitigation

When a client wants to carry out an activity that’s prohibited under wildlife legislation, we’re able to produce mitigation strategies in support of obtaining protected species licences. We’ve previously used our technical expertise to obtain protected species licenses for works affecting bats, badgers, great crested newts, hazel dormice
and water voles.

Our ecologists have many years’ experience in designing practical and cost-effective mitigation strategies, which work for both our developer clients and local planning authorities.

Efficient ecological solutions

Our aim is to provide efficient ecological solutions which can be built into project design, or integrated into existing development plans to provide a net gain for biodiversity.

We have the unique advantage of our own team of in-house specialist contractors. They’re able to work alongside our ecologists to implement and manage high quality mitigation infrastructure at a landscape level.

We provide a range of Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) services to oversee the implementation of development projects, ensuring compliance with wildlife laws and planning conditions whilst minimising impacts on biodiversity.

A pragmatic approach is taken to all of our Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW), and we prioritise the efficient delivery of projects within the constraints of timescale and legal obligations. In order to achieve this, we can offer the following services.

Production of an ecological method statement

These advise on the most appropriate methods for carrying out specific operations, in order to minimise biodiversity loss.

Provision of an ecological watching brief

This involves the presence of an ecologist on site during works, to ensure compliance with wildlife law.

Species translocations

Species translocations may be necessary in a number of scenarios, such as where population densities of protected species under threat from a development are high enough to be of local or regional importance.

Take a look at our ecological survey calendar for details of the seasonal restrictions associated with ecological surveys.
