Habitat improvements at Springwell Lake

For this popular coarse fishing lake, we improved the access areas with boardwalks, pathways and tree safety works – while enhancing the valuable habitats.

Access to fishing
We undertook a joint project with Affinity Water and Groundwork Trust Thames Valley, to construct new access to a popular coarse fishing lake. The aim was to improve existing access areas, and enhance the wetland habitat.

Safety and new habitats
Using a combination of boardwalks, raised causeways and platforms, we upgraded the access route. We made sure trees were safe with willow pollarding and coppicing, and poplar crown reductions. Other works included the creation of new ponds, reed bed management and invasive vegetation clearance.

The result was a sustainable, safe and pleasant environment for all users of the lake – and the enhancement of valuable habitats.
