Trees provide a multitude of benefits to society, both long and short term. Planting more trees has become increasingly important in the face of climate change and there is now a greater demand for people to plant these trees. This one-day course has been designed to build an awareness of the basic principles of tree planting and aftercare.

Who should attend?

This course is aimed at anyone employed, considering employment or with an interest in working outdoors.

Aims of the course
  • Delegates will learn about the importance of trees;
  • The different settings in which they are planted;
  • Understand different methods of how to plant and maintain trees and how to successfully establish them.
What will you learn?

By the end of the course delegates will:

  • Understand the importance of trees in the wider environment;
  • Be familiar with the basic physiological function of trees and factors affecting their growth;
  • Understand the reasons for planting trees, various planting techniques and the right time to plant;
  • Be aware of the importance of site preparation, using the right equipment, tree handling and storage;
  • Understand how to protect newly planted trees against potential pests;
  • Understand the importance of aftercare for newly planted trees and the various techniques for doing so;
  • Understand the requirement to have the correct certification to undertake certain tasks, such as chemical spraying;
  • Understand the importance of biosecurity when working with trees.

The instructor

The course is delivered by Neil Chamberlain, a professional forester with over 25 years of experience in the sector.

The facilities

Courses are held at our offices outside Windsor and Hitchin.

Both locations are in rural locations but within 5 miles of train stations and have plenty of parking.

Tea and coffee will be available during the day. There will be a break for you to eat your own lunch.

If you have more than 6 people to train, we can come to your own venue.
