A fantastic partnership between @knightfrank and Maydencroft, with Henry Clemons (Grant Funding Consultant, Knight Frank) and Cora Pfarre (Head Forester, Maydencroft) leading the way on a vital tree felling operation as part of the Buckwell Farm restoration project in Kent. The site features three interconnected ponds linked by a chalk stream, with restoration efforts focused on Victorian sluices, habitat enhancement, and tree management. To improve the pond habitat, we worked with PR Newson Ltd to carefully remove 120 conifers and thin the self-seeded alder woodland in one of the historic ponds. In response to ash dieback, we removed a few mature ash trees along the public right of way and overhanging the sluices. Alice Salisbury (Senior Ecologist, Maydencroft) oversaw the work to ensure full compliance with EPS (European Protected Species) guidelines on bats.
Hannah Yetman (Ecologist, Maydencroft) also carried out Water Vole surveys, which identified signs of presence, including multiple holes, mammal paths, and a latrine. The works should enable the population to move more freely between water bodies and enlarge their territory and, hopefully, their population. A huge thank you to everyone involved in this incredible conservation effort.
