Maydencroft started a new project at the Royal Gunpowder Mills near Waltham Abbey, where explosives such as TNT were developed and produced for over 300 years.
The Natural England-funded project aims to study an abandoned canal system and its environs. As part of a multidisciplinary project team, we will help develop a phased approach to restoration that will benefit the on-site SSSI and SAM while re-vitalising a unique visitor attraction.
We had our first site visit to plan the various aquatic and terrestrial ecological surveys in the SSSI, accompanied by consultants studying the hydrology, archaeology, engineering and soils.
We are looking forward to some exciting surveys and debates.
