Arboricultural asset and safety inspection at a land-based college

Maydencroft was commissioned by an environmental, land-based college, to conduct an arboricultural asset and tree safety inspection survey of all trees within the boundaries of their 30-acre Enfield campus. This included trees within the open gardens and show gardens that featured various coniferous and broadleaved trees.

The survey identified 1091 individual trees and 59 groups, consisting of 167 different species, of which 19 species were rare or uncommon in the UK.

Said survey was conducted during winter, and tested our dendrological skills when identifying the many and varied deciduous species having already shed their foliage. A myriad of both mundane and exotic species were identified, ranging from dwarf conifers to mature broadleaved trees. Each tree was plotted individually where possible, allocated a risk rating, and provided a recommendation for remedial tree work where necessary.

As well as sharpening our tree identification abilities, surveying such a range of species was a satisfying challenge.
