Restoring a Victorian water garden

An open brief by our client gave us the opportunity to show what's possible when bringing a Victorian water garden back to its original, highly improved glory.

Over a 150 tonnes of backfilled debris were removed, 300 tonnes of clay imported, new brickwork and repointing of old. Behind the landscaped finished, are gabion basket retaining structures, an underground pump chamber, with a pump commonly used for the City of London’s water features enabling a continuous water flow between the 3 bodies of water.

A borehole was commissioned and dug to a depth of 90 metres, giving the client a garden irrigation system that interconnects with the underground chamber and pump network so the area can be kept lush throughout hot summers.

The photos don't show the full extent of the work and are still unfinished. There is plenty of planting to do and a season required for everything to settle in.
