Protected species mitigation for a barn conversion

We helped our client navigate the important ecological aspects of converting and restoring a magnificent 15th century barn.

A listed building…
Our client wanted to convert part of a Grade II* listed C15th Tithe Barn in Pirton, Hertfordshire to residential use – and restore the remaining barn to its former glory.

… but home to bats

After confirming the barn was in use by several species of bat, our ecologists helped our client devise a programme of mitigation and compensation. This would enable the project to go ahead, without impacting the resident bat population.

Our work enabled Natural England to grant a European Protected Species Licence. From this, planning permission was granted, and our client was able to go ahead.
