Rainwater harvesters for allotments

By designing and constructing rainwater harvesters, we provided a vital and sustainable amenity for allotment users who didn’t previously have access to a fresh water source on site.

Grey water for keen gardeners
We were asked to design and construct a self-contained grey water supply, to harvest rainwater for allotment users.

Using a timber structure, we created shelters for the collection tanks, so rainwater could run off the roof. The shelters were around two metres in height, with guttering along one edge – and the roof was made from corrugated sheets. The structure itself was constructed from pressure-treated softwood, with a guaranteed lifespan of at least 20 years. The 2500 litre tanks rested on a heavy-duty hardwood base, with a brass tap.

A countrywide roll-out
Due to the success of this project, we rolled out this facility to allotments across the country.
