Landsacape Management Plan: Hertfordshire County Council
The client: Hertfordshire County Council, Rural Estates
The site: Attenborough’s Fields is the historic parkland of Haydon Hill House, designated as a County Wildlife Site for its local nature conservation value.
The brief: Production of a Landscape Management Plan
Our solution: A baseline data study was undertaken for background context on the site. Our Senior Landscape Consultant and Estates Manager undertook a thorough survey and evaluation of the site gathering information on its landscape, biodiversity, heritage, accessibility, infrastructure, maintenance and overall condition. Maydencroft worked closely with HCC Rural Estates and Friends of Attenborough’s Fields to outline the key constraints on site and devise an appropriate set of aims and objectives.
The result: A Landscape Management Plan with detailed maps was created and is now in use on site. The site had previously been managed with horse grazing to the detriment of the grassland. The horses have now been moved off site and cattle grazing is due to be implemented. The focus of the plan is to manage the site primarily as grazed historic parkland with permissive visitor access. The plan includes a five-year action and maintenance plan which will aid the landowners in the management of the site.
