Invasive Species Week: Hitchhikers

Many aquatic invasive non-native plants can spread from very small plant fragments. It is important that we are aware of this when we use our watercourses so we don’t accidentally and unknowingly spread invasive species. To prevent spread we follow these three simple steps when we have been working in water:

CHECK clothes, footwear and equipment for plant fragments.

CLEAN clothes, footwear and equipment thoroughly, with hot water if available. Leave any plant fragments that are found in the waterbody.

DRY clothes, footwear and equipment as some aquatic plants can survive for three weeks in damp conditions. Don’t transfer water elsewhere.
