Allotment rainwater harvesters
The client: Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council.
The brief: To design and construct a self-contained grey water supply with timber structure to harvest rainwater for allotment users.
Our solution: We designed and constructed shelters in which a collection tanks are positioned, enabling rainwater to be harvested via run off from the roof.
The shelters are approximately 2 metres in height with guttering along one edge, the roof made from ‘Onduline' corrugated sheets and the structure made from pressure treated softwood with a guaranteed lifespan of at least 20 years. The 2500 litre tanks rest on a heavy-duty hardwood base and have a brass tap allowing users to quickly and easily collect water from the tank.
The result: We provided a vital and sustainable amenity for allotment users who did not previously benefit from a fresh water source on site. Due to the success within the borough, we have rolled out this facility to allotments across the country.
