Springwell Lake: habitat improvements
The site: A popular coarse fishing lake with a path that circumnavigates, allowing access for all.
The brief: A joint project was undertaken by Affinity Water and Groundwork Trust Thames Valley to construct new access, improve existing access areas and enhance the wetland habitat.
Our solution: Using a combination of boardwalks, causeways (raised sections of path) and platforms, the access route has been upgraded. Tree surgery works included willow pollarding and coppicing, poplar crown reductions and other tree safety works adjacent to the pathways. Other works included the creation of new ponds, reed bed management and invasive vegetation clearance.
The result: A sustainable, safe and pleasant environment has been created for all users of the lake and valuable habitats have been enhanced.
